Chris Glover sat down with WSFA-TV12 News reporter Mark Bullock to discuss the City of Montgomery Pool Safety Ordinance and the recent settlement in the 2011 wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of the family of two young boys who drowned in an apartment complex pool. Glover and local mother of two, Piper Vance, shared safety information that will help parents and caregivers better protect their children around pools. According to Glover “drowning deaths in the south are the number one cause of accidental death among children”.
The City of Montgomery requires that all pools be surrounded by a fence with gaps no wider than six inches, at least 3.5 feet tall and gates must be self-latching. Currently, in the City of Montgomery, swimming pools are inspected only once by the inspectors, at the time of installation.
